Biografie

Sander graduated from Applied Physics at the Eindhoven University of Technology in 2000. In his graduation project he worked on imaging of flows in stratified liquids. After this he started to work as a Development Engineer with Philips Lighting. Here he worked for over six years researching and developing new HID-lamps. In 2006 Sander decided to return to TU/e in order to pursue a more scientific career. Between 2006 and 2011 he worked parallel on two different projects within the group Elementary Processes in Gas discharges (EPG): the physics of streamers and exotic phenomena in hydrogen discharges. Due to support from a large number of undergraduate students both projects have been successful. In February 2011 he defended his PhD thesis titled "Experimental Investigations on the Physics of Streamers". After receiving his PhD started working as an Assistant Professor in the group EPG. He is there now involved in projects on a variety of different plasmas. The common denominator of most of these plasmas is that they are highly transient. One of his major research questions is: "What drives a transient discharge?". This includes both the temporal and spatial development of transient discharges including streamers, microwave discharges, and EUV-induced discharges.
