From Processing to Properties

The main objective is to create a set of experimentally validated models that allow for (semi-crystalline) polymer design for a specific application in terms of mechanical performance. Sub-models concern the prediction of the structure in terms of number and size distribution of (possible) different crystalline phases as a function of the processing conditions, especially cooling rate (= temperature history) and pressure, and the relation between the important structure parameters and the resulting yield stress; the main mechanical property. The project will be limited to developing and testing this idea for PP, PE and random PP/PE copolymers.
