Marko Boon studied Applied Mathematics at Eindhoven University of Technology. He showed particular interest in the usage and development of mathematical software, especially in creating computer-aided teaching environments. The programs Cow and Statlab, which he created together with fellow student Michel Vollebregt, are still being used in several courses at TU/e. He obtained his M.Sc. degree in 1999 and started a job as scientific programmer at the Operations Research and Statistics section of the department of Mathematics and Computer Science at TU/e. During the years that followed, teaching became a more substantial part of his duties, and since 2003 his employment at TU/e is partly as a University Lecturer. In 2007, he started a PhD project under the supervision of Onno Boxma and Ivo Adan. The main topic of this project was polling models and their applications to signalised traffic intersections. Marko defended his thesis in 2011 and became an assistant professor in the section Stochastics. His main research topics are polling models and their applications to signalised traffic intersections.
