Cap for free of charge open access publishing in Springer journals is expected to be reached in early October

Since 2015, corresponding authors affiliated to TU/e can publish Open Access in many Springer journals without costs. The number of free open access publications under the deal is limited to 2,080 per year. In 2021, the maximum number is expected to be reached in the beginning of October.

What are the consequences?

If your manuscript is accepted between the moment the cap is reached and 1st January 2022, Springer will still offer to publish your article Open Access, but the costs will no longer be covered by the VSNU agreement and you will receive an invoice (ranging from 1790-3990 euro, depending on the journal).

What can you do?

Are you in the process of publishing in one of the Springer journals that are covered by the R&P agreement, please sign up for our notification service and you will receive an email once the cap is reached.  Also, pay close attention to the “author journey” after acceptance of your article. After the cap has been reached you will be presented with different options. On the open access website you can see how the “author journey” will change.

Still make your publication Open Access?

Maybe you still want to make your publication open access, or your funder requests you to do so. We’ve listed the different options for making your article openly available on our website.
