Luna

Opening hours: Mon-Fri 8:00-23:00

Renovation period Luna: 2014 - 2017 (Design: diederendirrix architecten)

Luna, the former Potentiaal building, was transformed into a residential building. This building is operated by Camelot and provides 430 living spaces for students and employees who study or work on the TU/e Campus. Apart from student dwellings, Luna accommodates various provisions and cultural functions.

The starting point for the transformation was to leave as much as possible from the original building visible. This was done among other things in the concrete structure of the entrance lobby and the concrete ceilings in the living units.

The new, sustainable façade refers to the original façades of the educational buildings at TU/e, all of which follow a consistent measurement system of 1.24 meter. The occupants can open the façade sections with big sliding windows themselves. This makes for a dynamic façade structure.

Original building period (E-hoog/E-laag, later on Potentiaal): 1958 – 1963 (Design: ir. S.J. Van Embden)

Potentiaal formed part of an ensemble of buildings from the first building phase of the TU/e campus. It is one of the three visually dominant buildings for the skyline of the university. Originally Potentiaal was an educational building which accommodated the department of Electrical Engineering. The high-voltage lab was also located here.

The Plint in Luna

The Plint, the lower floors of the Luna building, is leased back from Camelot by TU/e. These lower floors are the home base of the student community. It is here that student associations, teaching rooms, a daycare center, a supermarket and a restaurant with a bar and terrace have been accommodated. The combination with other functions generates a heterogeneous living environment as well as a lively atmosphere. The Plint has been made transparent through the application of many big openings. In the annex Corona the aluminum dome has remained intact, which gives the theater a characteristic atmosphere of its own.
