New PhD student Aylin Kinik
Aylin Kinik joined the Membrane Materials and Processes Group in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry at the Eindhoven University of Technology on April 11th, 2022 as a doctoral candidate. She received her BSc degree in Chemistry from Istanbul Technical University in 2020 and studied polymer chemistry there as her graduation project. During her BSc studies, she also worked at the EPFL in the Laboratory of Molecular Simulation for two months. She synthesized and characterized the metal-organic framework structures there for different applications such as gas absorption. She got her MSc degree from Koc University. During her MSc studies, she focused on electrochemistry and worked on the first-row transition metal-based electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction. During her PhD studies, Aylin will be working on the DESOLINATION project by focusing on the production of the forward osmosis membranes for clean water production. The main goal of this project is to develop strategic innovations in the concentrated solar energy technique, the desalination process, and the integration of these techniques to arrive at a competitive desalination process.
