Eindhoven students are projecting life-size positive images and messages on the Eindhoven train station for a week. Anyone can contribute messages via Instagram, which will be posted under the heading #EindhovenIs. The action, which started yesterday evening, is a reaction to the riots and destruction at and around the station on January 24.

The initiative for the action comes from TU/e students Mayke Scheffer and Gijs Neerhof. They were shocked by the riots in their city, and almost immediately took the decision to organize a positive response. "After those riots we would like to give everyone a heart-to-heart, in this period that is already difficult for all of us. And we want to put Eindhoven in a good light this way, together with everyone in the city, after the negative news of last week." They started making phone calls and soon got about thirty other students from TU/e and Fontys mobilized, from all kinds of student associations: study associations, sports associations, cultural associations. They also managed to get support from the TU/e and STEHVEN (Student Eindhoven).

Submitting suggestions for the projection of #Eindhovenis is possible via the Instagram account @eindhoven_is. The most beautiful texts will be projected on the side of the station and the corresponding clock tower, supported with beautiful images. The action also runs on the City Beacons in the city. Furthermore, the students call on all people in Eindhoven to share what they like about the city on social media under the hashtag #EindhovenIs.

"We love that our students show such a strong commitment to the city," says TU/e Executive Board President Robert-Jan Smits. "It is important that we collectively show how much beauty Eindhoven has to offer. The students express the widely held feeling that the riots and vandalism of January 24th are in no way representative of our city. We as TU/e therefore support this action wholeheartedly."

Mayor John Jorritsma let it be known that he is very pleased with the action. "It's wonderful how involved our students are with the city and how they want to give everyone a shot in the arm after the misery of 24 January. This is how Eindhoven really is. Together we are Eindhoven."
