Visit from Dr. Prof. Tatsuhiro Takahashi, Japan

October 19, 2023

Prof. Takahashi from Yamagata University in the Department of polymeric and organic materials engineering, visited our group to present his research titled: Development of composite materials with functions that combine two conflicting characteristics : (i) Strength and Elongation (ii) Electroconductive and Thermosetting (iii) Dispersion and aggregation

Innovative composite material research has been carried out with focusing on the interface, the synthesis of original reactive polymer, and up to mechanical evaluation of a gram scale.

Here, three examples of composite materials with functions that combine two conflicting characteristics are introduced. (i) carbon fiber / polypropylene composite with slide ring polymer, polyrotaxane, and hydrogen bonding at the interface to achieve both strength and elongation (ii) polyaniline / divinylbenzene composite having electroconductivity and thermosetting property for the matrix of carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) having lighting strike protection (iii) acetylene back in positive electrode of Li ion battery having dispersion and aggregation
