New Postdoctoral fellow Menno Houben
In December 2021 Menno started as a post-doctoral fellow in the group of Membrane Materials and Processes (MMP) at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). He obtained his PhD degree at the Eindhoven University of Technology where he studied plasticization phenomena at high CO2 pressures and supercritical conditions in polyimide membranes for gas separations.
This work aimed at better understanding plasticization phenomena at a molecular level and how key parameters play a role in the effect of plasticization, which is vital for developing novel plasticization-resistant membranes. During his post-doc Menno will work in the ReCoVR project, which aims to develop electrically driven separation technologies for the recovery of valuable resources. Specifically, he will investigate the potential of bipolar membrane electrodialysis to convert dilute salt solutions in valuable organic acids. This includes the development of novel bipolar membranes that allow for high current efficiencies and study different stack configurations for the production of these organic acids.
