Construction company Heijmans, together with housing corporation Woonbedrijf, won the tender for the construction and management of 735 new student residences on the TU/e campus. Construction work will start at the beginning of 2022. The aim is that the two residential towers in the plan will be ready before the start of academic year 2023-2024.

Vice Chairman of the Executive Board, Nicole Ummelen, is pleased with the choice for Woonbedrijf, Heijmans and VenhoevenCS architecure+urbanism. Ummelen: "They have formulated the well-being of the future residents as starting point. They have translated this into an affordable supply of good quality housing units and a clear range of facilities that fit in well with the target group. Their plan, with attention to community building and initiative of the residents, fits perfectly with our ambitions for the further development of our university campus".

The plan provides for two residential towers with a total of 653 student residences. Half of these are student rooms with a maximum rent of 250 euros (price level 2020). The focus on affordable rooms was a precondition for the TU/e, partly because students indicate that they appreciate the contact with co-residents. Half of all residential units are intended for Dutch students and the other half for international students.

Between the residential towers there will be low-rise buildings with a further 82 student residences. The low-rise section is intended to become the 'social heart' of the housing complex, including a thrift store, a creative space and other spaces that will be filled in in consultation with students. These functions are also intended for the residents of the other student housing on the campus. The entire complex will be located on the site of the ‘Paviljoen’, the former home of the department of Industrial Engineering & Innovation Sciences.

Vestide, part of Woonbedrijf, will be responsible for the rental and management of the residences. Vestide already manages Aurora, the existing residential tower with over three hundred residential units, which was completed in September 2016.

With the construction of additional housing units for students on the campus, the university takes its responsibility in providing accommodation for students in Eindhoven. With this project, the total number of housing units on campus amounts to more than 1400.
