Join now: TU/e is donating for earthquake relief in Turkiye and Syria

February 13, 2023

We will double the total amount raised in our own digital collection box by the end of the national day of action, Wednesday February 15.

The destruction of lives and livelihoods resonates deeply with us and our community. Within our community, we see a lot of initiatives to take action and help victims. In addition, we have created our own online collection box for Giro555 to raise additional funds. Moreover, we will double the total amount raised in our own digital collection box by the end of the national day of action, Wednesday February 15. Please join us in giving generously to aid the people of Turkiye and Syria!

Last Monday at 04:17, there was an earthquake of magnitude 7.7 in Southern Turkiye, destroying cities in Turkiye and the western region of Syria, effecting the lives of millions of people. The number of casualties already runs into more than 30,000, while unfortunately being expected to rise as many areas are yet to receive search and rescue teams.

TU/e collection box

The TU/e community deeply sympathizes with the victims and the approximately 400 employees and students directly affected by the disaster. This widely shared sentiment on our campus leads to a lot of heartwarming initiatives to actively help.

With our own online collection box for Giro555, we as TU/e want to offer our support. We call on everyone inside and outside our community to make a generous contribution so we can raise a helpful amount. We will double the amount raised after the national day of action this Wednesday.

The collaborating aid organizations behind Giro555 are currently working day and night in the affected areas. Among other things, they are helping with search and rescue operations and distributing food, drink and items such as medicine, winter clothing and blankets. The organizations are also ready to provide both medical and psychological assistance.

Information and donation on campus

There will be information stands located in various places around the campus; sharing information on the recent disaster and why our donations are crucial. Stop by these stands to support your fellow Turkish and Syrian members of our community. If there are any questions and concerns, feel free to reach the affiliated students at earthquakereliefturkiyesyria@tue.nl.

National day of action

An national action day for Giro555 will be organized on Wednesday, February 15. The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision in Hilversum will be transformed into Giro555's action center on that day. Live programs will be made from there and there will be a call panel with Dutch celebrities. Radio station NPO FunX will kick off Wednesday at 5:55 AM in Beeld & Geluid and will be a national action channel all day.
