Times: TU Eindhoven best Dutch university

TU/e is the highest-ranked Dutch university in the Times Higher Education ranking that was published today. Times says the Eindhoven university’s 114th place is ‘an impressive achievement’. TU/e scored especially high on innovation.

Last year, TU/e held the 120th position in the Times Higher Education Supplement (THES) top 200. All other Dutch universities on the list show a drop in performance compared to last year, and so TU/e managed to take the lead. Leiden University is the second best Dutch university, ranked 124.

Cause for the change in ranking, according to Times, is the improved measuring methodology that was implemented only this year. Reputation and previous achievements have become less important; measures of excellence in the field of research, teaching and knowledge transfer have been given more weight.
Especially on the innovation parameter, which Times measures based on universities’ industry income, TU/e scored exceptionally high: 99.8 out of 100.

In a response to TU/e’s result, Times Higher Education says the number 114 spot is ‘an impressive achievement’. “The top 200 universities in the world represent only a tiny fraction of world higher education and any institution that makes it into this table is truly world class."
