Oktay Türetken, member of the Information Systems Group and chair of the Industrial Engineering Bachelor Program at TU/e, has been appointed as full professor as of February 1st 2024. In his research, Türetken focuses on the development of innovative digital solutions and managing their business models.

Collaboration for value co-creation

Oktay: “I believe that addressing today's societal and business challenges requires more than just innovative ideas and technology. It also necessitates relevant business models that are effectively managed using engineering methods and tools. These models should facilitate collaboration among diverse stakeholders and ensure mutual and balanced benefits for all involved parties.

I am particularly interested in collaborative business models for innovative digital solutions that foster value co-creation. I mainly focus on service business models based on sharing and subscription models. My aim is to deliver effective and sustainable results for all involved parties, including users, service providers, and society at large. In my research, I adopt approaches from various fields, such as business process management, enterprise modeling, and business analysis.  I develop methods and tools to support the design, evaluation, performance management, and implementation of business models for digital solutions. I also ensure tight integration of these models with processes and IT systems.

Mobility as an application domain

Türetken applies his methods and tools in various domains, including mobility. “I've been involved in designing and implementing digital platforms, such as “mobility-as-a-service” and shared mobility platforms, which seamlessly integrate various mobility services within urban landscapes. My objective is to support designing solutions that are not only economically viable but also have a positive impact on the environment and society.

Maturity models

In addition to my focus on business models, I also develop maturity models to support organizations in understanding and improving their capabilities, particularly for advanced data analytics and business model and process management.

Teamwork

Türetken views his appointment as a professor as a recognition of the joint efforts of former and current colleagues, including PhD students. “We have a shared goal to make an impact, both in practice and research. Only through teamwork and unity, will we achieve our goals.”
