Fred Langerak and Marieke van der Hoeven complete the new board of the department of Industrial Engineering & Innovation Sciences.

The Department Board of Industrial Engineering & Innovation Sciences appoints Marieke van der Hoeven as managing director and Fred Langerak as vice dean of Industrial Engineering.

Marieke van der Hoeven comes over from Philips Research, where she is head of the Digital Engagement, Cognition and Behavior department. She has been with Philips since 2011 and previously worked at TNO. Marieke's experience with both research environments and business combines the best of both worlds. We are delighted to be working with her.

Fred Langerak has been professor of Product Development & Management since 2008 and knows the department inside out. He has held several positions here, including serving as acting vice dean in the spring of 2022. Fred was also closely involved in the research review process that took place during the past term.

With these appointments, the department board is once again complete. Yvonne de Kort will stay on as vice-dean. Earlier it was announced that Geert-Jan van Houtum has been appointed dean of the department as of October 1, succeeding Ingrid Heynderickx. Geert-Jan: "I am very happy with these appointments. We have assembled a great team and together with the rest of the department we can tackle the challenges ahead: to further develop the multidisciplinary, departmental research themes and to attract more students, especially in the master programs."

Fred Langerak will start October 1 as vice dean (2 days per week) while also remaining active for his chair (3 days per week). Marieke starts in her position as of October 23 and succeeds Eric van der Geer-Rutten-Rijswijk, who begins as managing director of Education and Student Affairs (ESA) on October 1. Jos Hermus (managing director Industrial Design) has been found willing to assume the duties of managing director ad-interim.
