TU/e ranks 7th in the EngiRank announced last Friday in Brussels. This is a new ranking for the more than two hundred universities of technology in the EU. In the subrankings for Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Medical Engineering, TU/e even comes in second, third and fourth respectively.

The EngiRank is based on a large number of indicators, which the authors extract from existing, recognized databases, such as Scopus and the EPO Worldwide Patent Statistical Database. The indicators cover areas such as research, innovation and internationalization. In terms of innovation, in which the EngiRank examines cooperation with industry and patents, among other things, TU/e even ranks third among all universities in the list.

Solid position

"This ranking confirms that we have a solid position among Europe's top universities of technology, and that we are certainly leading the way in terms of innovation and collaboration," said Robert-Jan Smits, president of TU/e's Executive Board. "It is a great result and I am proud of where we stand in the subrankings." Rector Silvia Lenaerts adds: "With these top scores in areas like materials engineering we can build even further on our research and innovation policy in collaboration with other excellent researchers and our partners in the Brainport region."

EuroTech universities

EngiRank is produced by two Polish umbrella higher education organizations in cooperation with scientific literature publisher Elsevier. TU/e's EuroTech partner universities are also doing well in the new ranking. For example, the Technical University of Denmark was ranked first and the Technical University of Munich was ranked fourth.
