RESEARCH PROFILE
Emmanouil (Manolis) Chatzigiannakis is an Assistant Professor at the Processing and Performance group of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His research focuses on experimental soft matter and specifically on the intersection between interfacial science, rheology, and polymers. His research interests include:
- Thin film dynamics
- Bubble and droplet coalescence
- Interfacial rheology
- Multiphase soft materials
- Polymers at interfaces
Multiple BSc and MSc projects are available along these research themes. Motivated students are always welcome to apply.
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
Emmanouil (Manolis) Chatzigiannakis received a BSc in Chemical Engineering from the National Technical University Athens (Greece) and a MSc in Polymer Science from the Technical University of Berlin (Germany). After a short research stay at the group of Prof. Savvas Hatzikiriakos at the University of British Columbia (Canada), focused on polymer melt rheology and specifically on wall slip, he moved to the Soft Materials group at ETH Zurich to pursue a PhD under the supervision of Prof. Jan Vermant. His PhD work was related to experimentally studying the dynamics of freestanding thin liquid films. He then continued to work at the same group as a PostDoc, specifically studying the influence of interfacial stresses on film drainage. Since February 2022 he is an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in the Processing and Performance group of the Mechanical Engineering Department at TU/e.
