Polymer Performance Materials

RESEARCH PROFILE

Tankut Türel is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Polymer Performance Materials (SPP) group at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His main work is in collaboration with BASF and he focuses on the development of novel, latent curing agents and water-scavengers for high performance polymers by using his excellent synthetic organic chemistry skills. Besides that, he takes a major part in the synthesis and development of sustainable and recyclable high-performance polymers which are built from smart monomers having suitable and cleavable functional groups incorporated. Thereby closed loop recycling could be achieved efficiently.

Let’s think smartly to develop greener plastics using energy-efficient ways to save our world.”

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Tankut Türel obtained his BSc and MSc degrees in Chemistry at Boğaziçi University, İstanbul. He obtained the second highest GPA degree in his department and was awarded with high-honors during his bachelors. During his masters, he worked on developing thermally conductive polymer composites. Just after completion his masters, he was selected for fully-funded SINGA scholarship to do his PhD studies in the Chemistry department of the National University of Singapore. During his PhD, he mainly focused on the structure-property relationships of rylene dyes, which are used in many important applications such as chemical sensors, organic photovoltaics, bioimaging, paints and supramolecular architectures. During his PhD, he developed excellent synthetic and instrumental skills and he obtained the best poster prize at the AMRC in 2019. In 2021, Tankut joined the Polymer Performance Materials (SPP) group at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) as a postdoctoral research fellow to work with Prof. Dr. Željko Tomović on the development of novel, latent curing agents for adhesives, sealants, coatings and fully-recyclable high performance polymers.
