RESEARCH PROFILE

I have a PhD in Surgical Robotics (Imperial College London) on the development of the Cyclops robotic system and brought it from an early concept to in vivo preclinical studies. The research was based in the St Mary's hospital with Dr George Mylonas and Prof. Ara Darzi. The technology has been acquired by Singaporean company Vivo Surgical and is currently under development as the ERES system.

My alma mater is a BSc in Industrial Design Engineering and MSc in Mechanical Engineering (TU Delft), where I completed my master thesis on steerable needles at the MISIT Lab under Prof. John van den Dobbelsteen and Prof. Jenny Dankelman.

From 2019-2022 I worked at the Leiden University Medical Centre on bringing pioneering medical technology into the clinic, most notably the PRISM system for the isolation and transplantation of pancreatic islets for the treatment of severe type I diabetes. Within this role I led a team of engineers to bring the technology to the level that it can be safely and effectively be used in human trials. The first-in-human trial took place in 2023.
