Dr. Ruchi Bansal

Associate Professor at the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Twente

Ruchi Bansal is trained as a biochemist and enjoy working with motivated professionals from different scientific backgrounds. She obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Biochemistry from Delhi University, India. She did her PhD research at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands, on drug targeting for the treatment of chronic diseases to increase the efficacy of drugs at the target (diseased) site and to minimize the adverse off-target side effects. During the final stages of her PhD, she received Sheila Sherlock research fellowship (from European Association for the Study of Liver, EASL) and The Ruth and Richard Julin’s Swedish Foundation research grant for a postdoctoral research at the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden. During the postdoctoral research, she focused on the immunology of Hepatitis C virus (HCV)-induced liver diseases. With a VENI grant (from NWO, ZonMw), she extended her research on “targeted nano-therapeutics for the treatment of liver diseases”. She has established her independent research team, Translational Liver research at the University of Twente, focusing on Liver diseases: from pathogenesis to nanotherapeutics. Ruchi Bansal has received several awards, honors and research grants, and is a faculty council member, a young academy board member and listed as one of the Featured UT scientists. Ruchi Bansal aims to translate basic science to clinical advancements by developing emerging diagnostics and targeted therapeutics against liver diseases. Besides a team leader, Dr. Bansal is a great teacher, mentor, and true inspiration for several students and researchers.
