Introduction
The industrial sector is worldwide responsible for roughly one third of the global GHG emissions. The use of heat represents 70-80% of the energy use of the industrial sector. At the same time, industry emits large amounts of waste heat to the ambient atmosphere. Industrial heat pumps are a technology that recovers and upgrades this waste heat to useable process heat. This presentation will give an overview of the industrial heat pump market and the technologies available and under development to meet the requirements of industry.
About the speaker
Simon Spoelstra has as background in Applied Physics at the University Twente. After a short stay with the Dutch Navy, he joined ECN to work on nuclear safety analysis. Since 1997, he is active in the field of industrial energy savings with a focus on industrial use of heat. He has held several positions in the development of industrial heat pumps and been involved in various technologies. Currently he is Senior Project Manager at TNO and manages multiple (inter)national projects on the development of industrial compression heat pump technology.
