EIRES takes it up a notch
On a sunny Friday June 23rd, 2023, over 200 participants attended the second EIRES Energizing Day. Through excellent lectures, posters, and exhibits by student teams and other partners of EIRES, the event showcased the latest in energy technology. Scientific director Richard van de Sanden explained how EIRES will take it up a notch in the coming years when it comes to stimulating cross-disciplinary research to drive the energy transition.
In her opening speech, TU/e’s recently appointed rector magnificus Silvia Lenaerts confessed that EIRES works on a topic that is close to her heart, since before coming to Eindhoven, she led the Sustainable Energy, Air and Water Technology Group that she founded at the University of Antwerp. ‘Innovation is not only about the individual, it is about connections. We need cognitive diversity, and people who view disciplines and silos as fragile, moveable boundaries, not as unbreakable barriers.’

Spoken word artist Atta de Tolk wrapped up the day
'Energy will not energize itself'
So, today we came to find some ways
To accelerate the energy industry and kick-start change
We are definitely already heading to the right place
But of course, there are some challenges to face
The challenges are local and at the same time global
So the last years are unheard of meaning, we are really vocal
