RESEARCH PROFILE
Cemil Bekdemir is University Researcher in the Power & Flow group of the department of Mechanical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). He also holds the position of Senior Scientist in the Powertrains group at TNO, the Dutch Organization of Applied Research. Cemil is involved in various research projects concerning greenhouse gas reduction from heavy-duty transport, in cooperation with academia and companies. His main research interests include advanced combustion and fuel cell technologies and the application of sustainable fuels. He is particularly skilled in mathematical modeling and analysis ranging from control-oriented approaches to CFD methods.
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
Cemil Bekdemir obtained his MSc (2008) and PhD (2012) in Mechanical Engineering from Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), both with the distinction Cum Laude. He wrote his PhD thesis on the development of numerical methods to accurately model diesel engine combustion and applied the Flamelet Generated Manifold (FGM) method in RaNS and LES simulations of spray combustion for the first time. Prof. dr. Philip de Goey and Dr. ir. Bart Somers were his supervisors and the project received support from the Dutch Research Council NWO TTW (formerly STW). During his PhD study, Cemil worked as a visiting researcher at the French Institute IFP Energies Nouvelles (IFPEN). After his PhD study, he joined the Powertrains group at TNO, the Dutch Organization of Applied Research. Since 2017 he is also visiting researcher at TU/e.
