Doctoral Candidate

Raul De Queiroz Mendes

I received a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), Campus São Carlos/Brazil, in 2018 and won an academic merit award granted by the Engineering Institute of São Paulo. In 2019, I started my master's degree course in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (SEL) of the São Carlos School of Engineering (EESC) of the University of São Paulo (USP) in Brazil. In the master's course, he was supervised by Prof. doctor Valdir Grassi Junior and the main line of research was on Dynamic Systems with a focus on Robotic Perception for autonomous vehicles, and on visual servoing strategies to control robotic manipulators. After the master's degree, I joined the PhD in mechanical engineering at the Dynamics and Control (D&C) research group at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Currently, I am supervised by Dr. Alessandro Saccon and by Dr. Andrei Jalba and promoted by Prof. Dr. Ir. Nathan van de Wouw. My main project is the I.Touch2See, funded by the Eindhoven Artificial Intelligence Systems Institute (EAISI), which aims for a cognitive bayesian framework to integrate proprioception and visuotactile perception for robotic manipulation in partially structured environments. Specifically, my work focuses on the development of a visuotactile perception and physics-informed scene representation framework for robotic manipulation in structure and semi-structure environments. My interests encompass the field and subareas of Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision, and Control.
