RESEARCH PROFILE
Melvin Drent is an Assistant Professor in the Operations, Planning, Accounting, and Control research group within the Department of Industrial Engineering & Innovation Sciences. Starting January 2025, he will join the Department of Information Systems and Operations Management at Tilburg University.
His research centers on decision-making under uncertainty, with a particular focus on data-driven approaches in supply chain management, manufacturing operations, and healthcare. Much of his work is conducted in close collaboration with industry partners. His findings have been published in leading journals, including Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, Operations Research Letters, and the European Journal of Operational Research.
Melvin has been awarded an early career Veni grant from the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research and additional funding from Dinalog to support innovations in logistics and supply chain management. Alongside his research, he is passionate about teaching, a commitment that earned him the title of Best Master Teacher at Eindhoven University of Technology in 2024.
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
Melvin Drent received a B.Sc. degree in Industrial Engineering in 2015 and an M.Sc. degree in Operations Management and Logistics in 2017. Both were obtained Cum Laude from Eindhoven University of Technology. He carried out his Ph.D. research (2017-2021) at the Luxembourg Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management of the University of Luxembourg. During his Ph.D. research, he was a visiting scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
