Eating Data: Health Analytics Research Meet on Intelligent Registration of Food Intake
The DSCE core team of Health Analytics is organizing a research meet for the data science community around TU/e. The aim is to survey the ongoing work related to food intake data collection/analysis with the further aim to define new shared research goals and attract supportive funding collaboratively.
Partners: The event organization is aligned with various stakeholders from Agrifoodinnovation and Pride and Prejudice and we are to attract key players via those networks.

ABSTRACTS
Lu Yuan (Industrial Design)
Promoting Healthy eating behaviour is a very complex societal challenge. It is extremely difficulty, especially when it is about older adults. We propose to look at this challenge from an ecological approach and together with our stakeholders research the entire journey of the user, the stakeholder and the food itself. From here we aim to create in-depth understanding of the motivating factors (psychological, physiological, and pathological) behind diet related behaviours so as to created personalised motivation towards healthy eating behaviour. Data is one of the the core enablers and assets here as it emerges from every steps of the journeys of interests. It will allow us to get better understanding of the drivers behind related decisions and identify research and innovation opportunities for all stakeholders involved. At the moment, we started an exploration with WUR, Philips Research and MMC with focus on cultivating healthy eating behaviour in the first 3-4 days of the cardiac intervention of the heart patients. We are looking for data analytics and AI research partners to join us!
Elske Brouwer Brolsma (WUR)
Elske Brouwer-Brolsma is researcher at the Division of Human Nutrition and Health at Wageningen University and has 10 years of experience in nutrition research, predominantly focusing on epidemiological studies. Initially her research focused on the aging population, which shifted more towards dietary assessment and early-life nutrition during the past 5 years. Elske is currently involved in several national and international consortia on advancements in dietary assessment (Pride and Prejudice, 4TU-UIT-346), food biomarker research (JPI FoodBAll, 2014/16267/ZONMW) and metabolic health (EU PREVIEW 312057 & EU SWEET 774293). She is (co-) author of >50 peer-reviewed publications and is currently supervising 4 PhD-candidates. Moreover, she is co-founder of a patent on the use of 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 to enhance executive functions (US Patent 9,707,242, Brouwer-Brolsma et al. (2017)). During the past 4 years she also served as a board member of the young-Dutch Academy of Nutritional Sciences.
Bénine Karssen (Board member of Foundation BalanceBuddy in Utrecht)
Foundation BalanceBuddy has a new approach on making a structural change in the lifestyles of unhealthy children. The foundation trains students with a background in emotion, physical activity and/or nutrition into lifestyle-buddies. These buddies are matched to families in need. The buddies mainly focus on the children within these families, by for example keeping track of their food-intake. Foundation BalanceBuddy measures several social variables (e.g. self-efficacy, locus of control, motivation) to see what effects in behavior our buddies might bring about on the long-term. All these variables have (in)direct relations with maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and are therefore really relevant to measure and discuss.
