Carlo van de Weijer, General Manager of the Eindhoven AI Systems Institue at Eindhoven University of Technology (Tu/e), spoke about the potential benefits and hazards of a future with AI. More than 600 people followed his presentation online and offline.
- AI has great potential to solve problems in today's society.
- AI is an excellent tool to increase productivity.
- Thereby, the intelligence of AI continues to increase exponentially in the coming years, outpacing humans who think linearly.
- However, humans have an advantage with their character, consciousness, values and creativity and can thrive on chaos.
- AI thus works extremely well in systems with boundaries, where humans can thrive in situations where not everything goes by the rules.
- A key piece of advice from Carlo van de Weijer is not to allow AI to make its own decisions in situations that do not proceed as conditioned.
- EU is the first worldwide to have written a proposal on regulations around the use of AI.
- The combination of humans and AI is preferred in this new world, with the need for humans to remain cautious of mistakes in AI systems.
- AI will not replace humans, there are 20% desk jobs while the 80% non desk jobs may be less affected by AI. Non desk jobs will also become more important (focus on more appreciation/salary for this group). Advice is above all: make your work your passion. Repetitive tasks will be taken over by AI.
- AI can particularly replace labor in occupations that meet the basic needs of Maslow's pyramid. Humans themselves can apply their strengths especially in providing for psychological and self-development.
- It is important to learn to work with AI, because otherwise you can be sidelined as a human being by those who can work well with it.
