Mechanomagnetic Recovery of Tendinopathy

Restore cell polarity and reorganise the tissue matrix using magnetic nanoparticles.

Tendinopathy (tendon disorder) is accompanied by the formation of a mechanically weak fibrotic scar which is prone to (re-)rupture. A highly organised anisotropic tissue matrix with aligned cells switches to a disorganised isotropic matrix with unaligned cells. To restore this lost cell polarity and functional matrix remodelling, the use of mechanomagnetism with nanoparticles is explored. This project is performed in collaboration with the lab of prof. Laura de Laporte.
