Trainees 2023

Maas van Apeldoorn received his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Eindhoven University of Technology. He obtained his Master’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the same university in 2023. The focus during his studies was on AI and algorithmic design and analysis. Additionally, he obtained teaching certifications for high school mathematics. His master’s thesis focused on building a system that converts 3D-point clouds into structural skeletons using provably efficient geometric algorithms and machine learning concepts. Maas has worked as a high school teacher and programming course instructor at the TU/e. His interests lie in algorithm design, software architecture, and artificial intelligence with a strong passion for sustainability and educational domains.

Shahana Bahlulzade completed her Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Computer Science Education in 2018 with honors at Baku Engineering University and her Master’s degree in Computer Engineering in 2020 at the same university at the top of the class. Her master’s thesis was “Reconstruction of signals from incomplete Fourier data.” She was a mathematics teacher for five years and a deputy director for academic affairs at Leznik and Company. In addition to mentoring young people, she is passionate about technology. Her current interests are artificial intelligence, machine learning, and embedded systems.

Amin Bakhshi completed his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, specializing in Software, in Iran. After years of experience as a software developer in both backend and frontend roles, he made the decision in 2020 to pursue a master’s degree in Software Engineering in Italy, aiming to stay updated on the latest technological advancements. Throughout his academic journey, he was engaged in different projects such as pipeline development on the cloud, blockchain development, embedded systems, and business process design. During his studies, he took on an internship as a research assistant, investigating topics like software architecture and design patterns. His recent experiences include roles as a Full-stack and React Developer in dynamic and agile team environments while he was in Italy. He has a strong interest in big tech and automotive industries, and his current focus is to become proficient in software and architecture design.

Tamir Bayarsaikhan received his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Obuda University of Budapest, Hungary in 2020 and Master’s in Electronics from the National University of Mongolia in 2022. His thesis was about simulation of balancing Circuit using a double fly-back converter on a used battery of a hybrid vehicle. During his professional career, he worked on automation systems using IoT technologies as well as web applications and business process automation tools. During his spare time, he likes to work on small project, which improves his hardware and software skills. His interests in the field are machine learning and embedded systems.

Ghinwa Bou Matar earned her Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the American University of Culture and Education in Lebanon. In 2019, she successfully completed her Master's degree in Computer Science from the Lebanese American University. Her master's thesis focused on developing an algorithm for influence maximization in social networks, which selects the minimum number of users that can influence the maximum number of people on the network. She worked as a full-stack software engineer for 9 years from 2014 till 2023. Her current interests include machine learning, software architecture, system design, and artificial intelligence.

Ketki Chaudhary received her Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronics engineering from Vellore Institute of Technology, India, laying the groundwork for her career in the automotive industry as a software engineer specializing in safety critical systems. Continuing her pursuit of knowledge, she obtained a Master’s degree in Computer Control and Automation from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, where her thesis centered on the safety assessment of highly autonomous vehicles using simulations. She employed industrial standards to verify and validate highway driving scenarios for a level 4 autonomous car. Drawing from this experience, she transitioned into the realm of robotics and worked on path planning and navigation of real-time intelligent systems. Currently, she aims to develop software architecture design skills, strengthen her technical leadership skills, and explore diverse applications of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.

Namratha Gangula earned her Bachelor degree from Osmania University, India in 2017. She earned her Master degree in computer science from the University of Houston--Clear Lake in Texas, USA in 2019. Her thesis project was done in conjunction with psychologists from Children’s Hospital, Colorado. She worked on the development of an augmented reality-based project to remove fear of spiders in children. After her graduation, she worked as a full time system engineer with Tata Consultancy Services in the USA for a period of two and a half years. In her spare time, she writes blogs. Her area of interest is artificial intelligence, machine learning, entrepreneurship and product management.

Teklit Haphtu Gebremariam received his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Mekelle University, Ethiopia 2015. Following his graduation, he worked for six years in Ethiopia’s Information Network Security Agency (INSA) as Security Engineer. In 2021, he was granted a Holand and UT (University of Twente) scholarship to pursue a Master's degree in Computer Science with a Cyber Security specialization at the University of Twente, Netherlands. His Master’s thesis focused on designing and implementing a lightweight communication scheme to secure resource constrained IoT (Internet of Things) devices for a Digital Twin application. Currently, he is working towards becoming a security architect within Industrial Control Systems (ICS) / Operational Technology (OT) environment. He plans to delve deeper into software architecture in near future. His interests include system security, IoT and software architecture.

Ishmam Hossain is an experienced professional, having earned a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 2018. His final year thesis on a hybrid approach for content-based image retrieval was published in an IEEE conference in 2017. Subsequently, he accumulated over five years of experience as a Software Engineer in three diverse companies, where he made contributions in a variety of fields, including energy market analysis, health technology, and IoT solutions. One of the most notable experiences of his career was working with professors at Umeå University, Sweden on a research project centered around Behavioral Informatics, where he designed and developed the application backend. In his most recent role as a Senior Software Engineer for a Norwegian company, Ishmam led a team, ensuring data availability for market analysts—a crucial responsibility for a leading energy market analysis company in Europe.

KH Rafiquel (Alik) Islam received his bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering from Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh, in 2016. Later, he received his Master’s degree from the same university in 2017. In his master’s thesis, Rafiquel worked on creating a travel planner application based on user preference and developed a prototype for it. During his six years of work in the software industry, he worked on some of the largest fintech applications in Bangladesh and also worked in the media and broadcasting industries. He also collaborates on open-source projects and has published an Android library for handling runtime permissions. Nowadays, his interest lies in technologies related to system engineering, data science, and blockchain.

Ziyarat Mahmudzade earned her Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Informatics from Qafqaz University, Azerbaijan, in October 2015. Following this, in 2017, she completed her Master's in Information Technologies and Systems Engineering at Azerbaijan Technical University. Her master's thesis was centered on "Effective Methods for Detecting Errors in Communication Channels" for digital data transmission. After her graduation, she served as an adjunct lecturer in the Computer and Information Technologies Department at Baku Engineering University from 2018 to 2021. Driven by her passion for software development, she transitioned to Randstad Technologies in Sweden in 2021. She undertook a role as a software developer consultant at Ericsson, a leading global telecommunications company and her responsibilities involved Cloud Native development, providing functional test-level solutions for 5G mobility networks and assisted in developing and maintaining cloud-based applications. Presently, she is dedicated to advancing her expertise in cloud computing architecture

Luis Martín-Roldán Cervantes completed his Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Computer Science at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid in 2017. This joint-field preparation enabled him to immediately join and contribute to the Data Analytics consulting services of KPMG for a year and a half. He decided by then that he would like to continue his studies pursuing a career focused on Artificial Intelligence. In the meantime, he obtained his Certificate of Proficiency in English and worked for the banking software developing company Avaloq until August 2019. Then, he entered Utrecht University’s Master’s program in Artificial Intelligence. He focused his attention on around Natural Language Processing and Cognitive Modeling, and his thesis proposed a new unsupervised learning methodology of studying fMRI data. It aimed to model individual neural activity in the visual cortex based on aggregated activity of neuron populations in the visual cortex. The resulting gradients of preference for location and surface area indicated a promising line of study. Currently, he is working on broadening his areas of expertise, while still holding a personal interest in neuroscience.

Muhammad Hasrul Maruf earned his Bachelor’s  degree in Computer Science from Universitas Indonesia in 2003. In 2011, he earned his Master's Degree in Computer Science and Engineering at Sun Moon University in South Korea. In his master's thesis, he introduced the Java Bridge Module—a cutting-edge middleware empowering hardware simulation frameworks with the versatility of Java for superior performance and enhanced graphical capabilities. Hasrul has worked as IT Manager, IT Project Manager, Risk Analyst, and Scrum Master, developing and maintaining software and IT systems for multiple business domains. He specialized mainly in agile project management, software development, and IT governance. Currently, he is curious about software solution architecture and design, Artificial Intelligence, IoT, coaching the next generations of engineers, and making contribution to global problems, especially in the food, energy, and water domains.

Antonios (Antonis) Katsikarelis received his Integrated Master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Patras (Greece) in April 2022. He specialized in Signal, Systems, and Automation Control and served as software engineer in the University Robotics Club. His master’s thesis focused on the design and implementation of a robotic arm teleoperation system via the Internet with the use of Mixed Reality technology. During the last year of his studies, Antonis worked as an R&D Engineer at the Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems and Automation, which specializes in industrial robotics. There, he worked on EU-funded industry projects as a software engineer and was responsible for the design and implementation of assembly cell simulation in a smart factory. His current interests include system design, software architecture, and project management.

Delaram Khalili Samani received her bachelor's degree in computer engineering from Ardakan University in 2016, and completed her master’s in computer engineering from Azad University, Iran, in 2021. Her master’s thesis was focused on load balancing in software-defined networks. She designed a combined algorithm to improve the load balancing among the controllers. The results of her research were published in Supercomputing journal, Springer in 2022. While she was a master’s student, she worked in a computer customer care company in Esfahan, Iran, and she was promoted for two last years as a manager. After her graduation, she decided to change her career. Therefore, she started learning Django programming and she had been working as a freelance backend developer for about one year. Her main interests are software architecture, software engineering in practice, and website development.

Sina Mirshafiei graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering from IAUCTB in 2019. In 2022, he completed his MSc in Computer Architecture Design from Amirkabir University of Tehran. His Master’s thesis focused on Improving a Quantum Computing circuit. Sina has worked on various programming fields such as Android, iOS, and back-end, with most of his work relating to logistics. He also has experience in Product management, but currently, he is focusing on Blockchain development.

Zeinab Namakizadeh Esfahani holds two master’s degrees, Computer Architecture from a top university in Iran, and Computer Science – AI from University of Genoa in Italy, where she graduated top student and full mark. With a background in software and database development, Zeinab has also made her mark in education as a lecturer at private universities and institutions. She has authored two papers published in international conferences and journals, showcasing her contribution to research. The latest focuses on a cognitive conversational agent to address the violence against women. Her areas of interest are natural language processing and speech processing specifically in the domain of health care.

Somaye Pishehvar held a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a major in Electronics from Shariaty Technical University of Tehran, Iran. She went on to receive her Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a major in System Telecommunications from K.N.Toosi University of Technology, Tehran, Iran. She began her career as a Telecommunications Engineer at Parsa Sharif Mobile Network Security Lab for two years. While working at Parsa Sharif, she developed an interest in Software Engineering and began to self-study programming concepts and languages. She succeeded to land her first job as a Backend Developer at TOSAN, one of the leading companies in the financial technology industry in Iran. After two years of experience at TOSAN she joined Faraz Pardazan to work on the Hamrah-Novin mobile bank application project. After ten months, she became a software engineer for SnappPay, the biggest BNPL at Iran. After a year of learning and experience, she decided to pursue her dreams of success by becoming an EngD trainee in Software Technology at TU/e and exploring opportunities with international high-tech companies. She is intrested in challenging technologies like machine learning, AI, automation, as well as finantiol field."

Ali Shahbaz obtained his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree from FAST National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences in Pakistan in 2020. In 2022, he earned his Master’s degree in Software Engineering from the same university. His thesis, "Automated Bug Identification Through Early Access Game Review Analytics on Game Distribution Platforms," aimed to automate bug categorization in steam engine game reviews with the goal of enhancing gaming experiences and optimizing development processes. He won multiple competitions specifically related to Android applications sponsored by FAST University. Ali has extensive experience in both open-source and corporate settings. He worked as a software engineer with MOD and Techzo Solutions. Additionally, he served as a teaching assistant at FAST National University, contributing to course management and conducting tutorials on topics related to requirements engineering and mobile app development. Currently, he is dedicated to fortifying his proficiency in software architecture and cloud computing.
