As a young boy I was already fascinated by production companies and their underlying logistics. After a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, OML was a logical next step. My focus on data actually started during my leap year working for Vanderlande Industries, using data to guide my work as an industrial engineer. When my international semester got canceled due to Covid, I decided to use this time wisely and look into Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL). At that time, there was no actual course about DRL at the TU/e. I did however get an introductory lecture about the subject of DRL within another course, lectured by professor Tavakol. I started doing my own research with her guidance, looking into the application of DRL into production planning. In a short time, we had some good results developing a modular DRL agent for scheduling jobs on multiple machines.

Being born and raised in Veldhoven, I was already familiar with Eindhoven before starting my studies at TU/e. The deciding factor, however, was the quality of the programs. Currently, I’m working at a data science consultancy company, building data solutions for a wide range of companies and sectors. What I like most about my job is the diversity of people and professions that I get to talk to, and using the skills I built at TU/e.
