Education

About Education

Our goal is to create students with the ability to change the world and shaping a future where technology serves as a force for positive change. This means that our student's innovations must not only be groundbreaking but also mindful of their environmental and societal impacts.

If you are a teacher at TU/e, this means that we choose to recognize your efforts and the efforts of teaching groups who invest in educational development and direct teaching toward addressing grand societal challenges such as climate change, social inequality, and biodiversity loss, among others. For this very reason we have created the Sustainability in Education Award.

If you are a student at TU/e, we also encourage you to get involved in extra-curricular activities around Sustainability, such as joining the GO Green Office, or becoming a Sustainability Manager in their own student association.

Thomas Plantenga, TU/e Alumnus and Vinted CEO - using your technical skills to solve societal challenges

Last year we had the pleasure of having Thomas speak to students during the Green Week Opening about his experiences as a student at TU/e and how these shaped his career and becoming Vinted's CEO.

Thomas’s journey from TU/e student to CEO showcases how technical education can indeed drive societal progress. His story is a powerful reminder to all of us, and especially to our students here at Eindhoven University of Technology, of the impact we can have.

“[As a technical student] you are very valuable for society and for business, so don’t waste your skills on building an algorithm to extract money out of the Stock Exchange. Do something useful and you will be much happier, and honestly when you try to build something in the form of a company,[... or an algorithm] that benefits society, you don’t have to think that you have to be poor. [...] You can do things that are good for the world and still make a living!”
