Master's track Materials for High Tech Systems Design

I DREAM OF A CAREER IN TOP-LEVEL MOTORSPORT

I am very interested in motorsport and cars in general. Especially the hi-tech aspect attracts me a lot. During my HBO study in mechanical engineering, I did an internship at TU/e's formula student team, University Racing Eindhoven (URE). Here, I worked with carbon fibre (composite). This material is widely used in motorsport and therefore I wanted to know more about it.

The Materials for High Tech Systems Design track gives you the opportunity to delve deeper into material properties.

During my master thesis, I worked on a materials research project in collaboration with TOYOTA GAZOO Racing. I investigated the properties of  composites made of natural fibers in wet/humid conditions in our own Multiscale lab and developed a computer model to predict its properties in these extreme conditions. This is important as this sustainable material is increasingly used in motorsport.  Currently the material is already applied in the Supra GT4 race car, but in the future it could also be used in other racing classes where Toyota participates, such as the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans.

After graduating, I started working at TOYOTA GAZOO Racing as a 'composite design engineer'. This is the start for a dream career in motorsport for me. I am responsible for the design of many parts that go on the car. The materials and associated techniques are very advanced and my studies at TU/e have helped me a lot in this.
