Shuaizhong’s work on particle removal by ciliated surface was published in Advanced Functional Materials, see https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/adfm.201806434 . In this paper, Shuaizhong demonstrates that magnetic artificial cilia (MAC), the man-made analogue of versatile biological cilia, are capable of self-cleaning / antifouling by effectively removing microparticles from a ciliated area. The MAC are fabricated using a facile and reproducible micro-molding technique, and are actuated by a rotating permanent magnet to perform a tilted-conical motion.
