Stefan Paquay

Hi, my name is Stefan. My project consists mostly of numerical work, which I do at FOM Differ in Nieuwegein (formerly known as FOM Rijnhuizen). We (a PhD student and I) study proposed models for the transition from low to high confinement mode in tokamak plasmas. More specifically, we want to verify if the qualitative behaviour (bifurcations) these transitions show in tokamaks can be reproduced by these models. For me it is a fun project because it involves developing and working with a numerical code.

Before that I had a great time in Greifswald, Germany, where I did a traineeship at the IPP. That is where world’s largest stellarator is currently under construction. My work there consisted of identifying problems with and improving a diagnostic for microwave stray radiation in fusion reactors.
