My name is Niek Lopes Cardozo and I'm heading the Fusion group.

I've been in fusion research for over 30 years. I've worked on diagnostics, transport, the topology of the magnetic field, fast electrons, plasma wall interaction, ...
Before I moved to Eindhoven to start the fusion group in 2009, I was head of the Dutch fusion research programme, which has its home-base at the Dutch Institute for Fundamental Energy Research (DIFFER). Apart from being professor at the TU/e I am chairman of the Dutch Organization for Fundamental Research on Matter (FOM), the principal funding organization for physics research in the Netherlands.

Setting up the research and education programme on fusion at the TU/e is a new and fantastic challenge and opportunity for me. Working with students in an interdisciplinary academic environment is a constant source of inspiration.
