Hi, I'm Roger Jaspers, a fusion aficionado since I started my PhD in 1991. My present challenge is to organise the interdisciplinary Fusion master program at the TU/e, started on September 1, 2012. I am active on more fronts in the fusion education field: as chairman of the European network on fusion education: FUSENET, as a member of the steering committee of the Erasmus Mundus Programme FUSION-DC and as initiator of the FusionAcademy.

My research career took place predominately abroad: I was seconded by FOM Rijnhuizen (presently DIFFER) to the TEXTOR tokamak in Germany for 15 year, with short visits to JET in between. Relativistic electrons, spectroscopy, transport and MHD are the main topics I was involved in there. My present research is concentrated around spectroscopic methods to diagnose the ion population in fusion plasmas, with special emphasis on fusion born (energetic) alpha particles. I am leading the scientific R&D of the instrumentation development of this CXRS system for ITER.

On the strategic level, I am involved as member of the executive Board of ITER-NL: a consortium of NRG, TU/e, TNO and FOM, established to make sure that the Dutch fusion effort (both in research and industry) will be benefitting from and of benefit for ITER.

So you see, my drive is to make fusion work and we should start at the basis: educating enthusiastic young students to work on their future!
